SUSTATEC-P.E.S

PolyEtherSulphone - (ULTRASON E® RADEL®)

Introduced in 1965 and marketed under the trade name of Radel® A by Amoco Performance Products and Ultrason® E by BASF, this material is a very high heat resistant partially stabilised aromatic thermoplastic.

Having high strength between -100°C and 200°C continuously and intermittently up to 260°C, SUSTASON-P.E.S has low combustibility combined with low smoke emission.

Good impact resistance, high stiffness and clarity make this material quite useful in electrical / electronics, aerospace, automotive and medical applications.

Like all amorphous polymers, SUSTASON-P.E.S is susceptible to stress cracking on contact with some organic solvents such as ketones, esters and chlorinated hydrocarbons. As long as the parts are not subject to high stresses, they can be cleaned with most solvents as in case of contact with MEK, whereby internal stress can be removed by annealing at 190-200°C for 2 hours.

Translucent and hydrolysis resistant semi-finished parts are readily available and meet the requirements of FDA, BGA and NSF.

SUSTASON-P.E.S can be characterised by the following properties:

• Amber coloured
• Outstanding creep resistance
• Excellent dimensional stability and mechanical properties
• Low flammability and minimal smoke emission
• Good weatherability and solvent resistance
• Continuous working temperature of +165C in air
• Steam sterilizable
• UL94 VO rated
