SUSTA®P.E.I

Poly Ether Imide (SUSTA®PEI, ULTEM®)

Introduced by General Electric in 1982 under the trade name Ultem™, SUSTA®PEI is an amorphous thermoplastic, which possess a range of useful characteristics, including high strength at elevated temperatures, high modulus and broad chemical resistance.

Stock shapes are inherently flame resistant with low smoke emission. PEI also displays property retention and resistance to environmental stress cracking when exposed to a wide variety of chemicals.

Having an amber colour in natural format however, glass filled grades appear tan or greenish in colour.

Other advantages include low NBS smoke evolution, superior LOI (Limiting Oxygen Index) UV stability and FDA compliance.

P.E.I is manufactured by SUSTAPLAST in rod and sheet and marketed under the name SUSTA®PEI.

PEI can be characterised by the following properties:

• Retains stiffness at -20C to +166C
• Microwave transparent
• Flame retardant and low smoke emission
• Glass grades offer higher mechanical strength
• Excellent electrical properties
• High tensile and flexural strength
• Broad chemical resistance
