Poly Imide
(VESPEL® AURUM® DURATRON® SINTIMID®)
With the combined physical properties of plastics, metals and ceramics - plus their own unique properties -VESPEL® parts provide unparalleled reliabilty, especially in operating environments that damage or destroy other materials.
VESPEL® bearings and bushings can extend the service life and increase operating efficiency. VESPEL® is available in a number of grades and specialty formulations to suit a wide variety of applications.
- Long life and wear resistance with unlubricated pressure velocity limits to 300,000 psi-fpm, and even higher with lubrication.
- Temperature resistance - can operate continuously from cryogenic temperatures to +288C, with short term use to +482C. It has no known melting point.
- Resists creep and permanent deformation even in high temperatures under high loads.
- Low coefficient of friction over a broad range of pressures and velocities. VESPEL® parts resist seize-up, even if lubrication fails.
- Chemically compatible with fuels, solvents, industrial and hydraulic fluids and many other compounds.
- Performs in high vacuum with ultra-low outgassing, along with friction and wear.
Applications:
- Spring retainer hubs @ 350,000 psi-fpm as well as 2,400 oscillations per minute.
- Variable vane bushings on jet engines @ +340C.
- Thrust washers in a heavy-duty planetary transmission oprating @ 350,000 psi-fpm and at +175C.
- Thin wall bushing in a furnace flue control @ +269C.
- High speed bushing operating at 26,000 RPM and relative to-shaft-bushing velocity of 580m/minute.
