SUSTA®PEEK

Poly Ether Ether Ketone (SUSTA®PEEK, VICTREX® ARLON®)

Introduced in 1979 by the I.C.I company which later became Victrex®, P.E.E.K™ is a unique engineering material that has a glass transition temperature of 143°C and a melting temperature of 343°C yet, independent tests have shown that PEEK™ polymer exhibits a heat distortion temperature of up to 315°C in glass fibre filled and a continuous use temperature of 260°C. A highly crystalline thermoplastic, the repeat unit comprises oxy-1,4-phenylene-oxy-1,4-phenylene-carbonyl-1,4-phenylene.

PEEK™ has excellent friction and wear properties which are optimised in the specially formulated tribological grade, which contains 10% Graphite, 10% PTFE and 10% Carbon Fibres.

PEEK™ also has excellent chemical resistance to a wide range of chemical environments; even at elevated temperatures, although concentrated sulphuric acid dissolves PEEK™

PEEK™ is a highly stable polymer and requires no flame-retardants or additives to achieve a UL 94 V-O rating at 1.45mm thickness. The composition and inherent purity of the material results in extremely low smoke and toxic gas emission in fire situations.

PEEK™ polymer and compounds are not chemically attacked by water or pressurised steam and retain a high level of mechanical properties.

PEEK™ has excellent electrical properties and low levels of extractable ionic species and outgassing.

PEEK™ can be characterised by the following properties:

• Excellent hydrolysis and chemical resistance
• Good strength and stiffness
• Good tribological properties
• Flammability meets ULV0
• Excellent radiation resistance to 1100 M RADS
• P.T.F.E., Carbon Fibre and Glass Filled Grades
• Good continuous service temperature of +250C
• FDA approved

PEEK™ has added a new grade HT (Higher Temperature) also CLASSIX™, a special BioMedical grade (PEEK-MG), and VICOTE™ which is dispersion coating grade that is applied to metal surfaces.
